A silk harvested without harm — from the Samia ricini moth, native to Northeast India. Also known as Ahimsa or peace silk.
From cocoon to garment
Non-violent
by principle
The silkworm is never killed, honouring the Ahimsa principle of non-harming.
Its cultivation sustains small farmers and tribal communities in rural India. The fibre is biodegradable, biocompatible — it has even been used in medical applications for its remarkable compatibility with the human body.
Assam,
Meghalaya, beyond
Samia ricini feeds on castor leaves — not mulberry. Primarily cultivated in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and parts of Thailand and China.
The cocoon is spun open-ended, allowing the moth to emerge naturally. Unlike conventional silk, no boiling, no killing — just patience.
